The Native American Anasazis in the Southwest gave their sacred dwellings a special name: Kivas.

Imagine yourself standing in the Southwestern desert at night. Sparkling stars pierce the black blanket of sky. A chill wind slides over the sands and wraps itself around your ankles as you peer down into an opening in the Earth. A simple wooden ladder descends through the opening, disappearing into a mysteriously glowing subterranean chamber. You hear music from down below, rhythmic trance-inducing music, and you see figures gyrating in the flickering light of a fire. You want to descend the five rough-hewn rungs of that ladder, but something stops you. A palpable feeling of reverence emanates from the space, and you're not sure if you are ready yet to become a part of the ceremony that is taking place within the Kiva.

As you hesitate, others will come up to join you. Their soft eyes issue a deep sincere welcome. You enter with them and quickly become part of the ongoing endless procession of people who have celebrated their connection to the Earth, to their own spirits and to each other, since the beginnings of human history.
